Write to Voters with UU the Vote and Vote Forward!

In 2020, we tried something radical. We launched a bold initiative to move Unitarian Universalists to organize communities around our values and principles. UU the Vote was created to combat white supremacy and fascism and to organize communities around faith-based goals and values. By the end of 2020, we reached over 3 million voters through letters, postcards, phone calls, text messages, and voter registrations and established working relationships in states and communities all over the country!

This year, we’re doing it again! We know the fight for a multiracial democracy is not over. And we’ve seen just this week how much is at stake. We’re battling partisan gerrymandered districts and other voter suppression tactics, new and old. That means we need to start reaching out to the voters NOW!

Join us for our first 2022 UU the Vote National Day of Action!

On Monday, May 9, 6:30pm-7:30PM ET/3:30-4:30pm PT,

join UU the Vote, Vote Forward, and Emma’s Revolution for a national letter-writing party.

We need people to help us boldly and unequivocally fight threats to our democracy and the dignity of life in this country. We need leaders to inform their congregations that the hard work of organizing is continuing and we need their help. Letter writing is a great way to take action and welcome new members to UU the Vote. Join us for our national letter-writing action on Monday, May 9 to write letters to voters in our priority states and learn how to host your own actions at home. This is how we build a movement for democracy!

Sign up for the Letter Writing Party!

Once you sign up, this is what you’ll need to do.

  1. Set up a Vote Forward account at votefwd.org, using your email address, your Facebook account, or your Google account.
  2. When you are approved, you will receive a welcome email from Vote Forward with the subject line: “You’re approved to send letters on Vote Forward” and you can get started writing letters.
  3. Log in to Vote Forward using the method you used to register, and you will land on your Vote Forward Dashboard.

Use the campaign you are automatically assigned, or choose a different campaign by clicking “View all active campaigns” on your Dashboard. Vote Forward runs both social and political campaigns. The differences are explained in detail in this FAQ.

Click the blue “Download and print these letters” button near the top of the “Letters to Print and Prepare” column to download all of the letters in this column in a single PDF. Depending on what type of computer and browser you are using, the letter PDFs can download to different places. The file name will be something similar to “2022-07-04-votefwd-letters-batch-of-40.pdf.”

Download 20 letters to write at the event. Most volunteers can write about 20 letters in one to one-and-a-half hours.

Print your letters single-sided.

Now gather your materials. You will need 20 stamps, a blue pen, and 20 #10 business envelopes.

Vote Forward’s instructions page has step-by-step information to help you get set up and download letters. You can also check out this short video.  If you need help, please see our searchable Help site with answers to volunteers’ FAQs.

We know what is at stake in 2022: civil rights, climate justice, LGBTQ rights, gender rights, and democracy itself are on ballots all over the country. We have the opportunity to swing the pendulum toward justice, but only if we all work together. Sign up today, and invite 3 others to join you.
